2010 1st round draft pick? 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Who do the Nats take here? Bryce Harper is the consensus #1 pick. But with Derek Norris being the #2 prospect in the organization (at least according to Baseball America ) will Mike Rizzo take another young catcher? Especially one who could be as expensive to sign as Strasburg? Maybe they take Harper and trade Norris? Or just pass on Harper and take a pitcher?

I think you have to go with Harper here. Considering some of the hype he's gotten, it will do nothing but put butts in seats. The Nats are not in much of a position to turn down the best talent available, and Harper fits that bill. If they can manage a trade for Norris, I think that's the right move.

There has been a little bit of chatter that Norris may not be able to stick at C. This is precisely why you always pick the best player available: when they are ready, the other people blocking them may already be gone. Especially when you're talking about a position where it's hard to find talent like C, you have to take the best player available.

Even if Norris does pan out it would probably make the most sense to take Harper with the expectation of moving either him or Norris to another position. As gifted of an athlete that Harper seems to be, I would think he could learn the outfield.

A clip of Harper homering in his 4th game as a college player. Interesting that he's using a wooden bat instead of aluminum. Probably a smart move considering he'll be required to use a wooden bat once he gets drafted this summer.

Using a wooden bat is music to the Nats' ears I bet. He's cutting his transition time down; let's just hope he's facing guys that are at least hitting the high 80s with their fastballs.
