The Caps again struggled to get shots through and spend time in the offensive zone against a trapping team, but they were able to pull together and sneak out of Montreal with two points on Saturday night. It can be argued that they let their proverbial foot off the gas after an early two-goal lead, which is a concern, but a road win is a road win, and I'm sure Bruce Boudreau will take it. Some points on the game:
- Can David Steckel catch a damn break with a goal already?
- Mike Knuble Eric Fehr might have saved the Caps with his net presence tonight. His two goals were the type of plays he'll have to make to be a successful NHLer. The final goal was a thing of beauty in it's own ugly way.
- Ovechkin got on the board again with a goal and assist, to go with 15 shots (eight on net). What's up with the zero hits?
- Brooks Laich is so valuable to this team, and yet his durability keeps some people from realizing it. He was a relatively quiet +1, but he's been the steadiest guy in this campaign to date.
- Semyon Varlamov has one regulation loss to start his career. It's not always pretty, but the Caps know how to get points with the young Russian in net.
- Don't look now, but Tomas Fleischmann's slowly losing some ice time.
- King Karl continuing to get PK time, and it's obvious that Bruce Boudreau has a lot of confidence in his young blueliner.
- Alex Giroux, we would really appreciate it if you would just go back to Hershey. You seem nice and all, but you're no NHLer.
Kudos Go To:
Eric Fehr. Five points in five games. Looks like another Fehr-streak.
