I think we can all draw the conclusion that the Panthers are basically in shambles now. With the Capitals' 7-3 victory last night (sans Ovechkin), they swept the season series against Florida, and all but destroyed the Panthers' playoff hopes for this season. Well-balanced efforts are the easiest to recap, so this should be quick.
- Eric Fehr has a sneaky good shot. It seems like he's mixed his shooting confidence with the stones to go to the net, which is great to see. The former was on display last night.
- It certainly looks like Brendan Morrison is getting his legs back. He was quick to put pucks on net and skated well last night. If he can get to the right spots, his hands work some serious magic. Not bad for a playoff third-line center.
- Speaking of the third line, Jason Chimera has been skating out of his mind. That trio of Chimmer, Morrison and Fehr is making life difficult for Bruce Boudreau. If you keep them together, what the hell do you do with Tomas Fleischmann?
- John Carlson had another typical night. One assist, plus-one and four blocked shots. The kid is overdue for his first NHL goal. Something tells me it will be an important one.
- Good to see Quintin Laing out there again. Hard to believe we'll have to see him again this season.
- Nicklas Backstrom continues his unreal season, picking up the slack for his suspended Russian buddy. His goals have gotten greasier as well. It smells like playoff time.
- Jose Theodore continues to impress, with a 37-save performance on the night. He isn't giving up his spot anytime soon, and that's a good thing.

Here's a hint. He took a trip to the bakery.
