It took a while, and it took a bad turnover to set up his own heroics, but Mike Green's overtime persona returned on a chilly December night in Washington D.C. The Caps improved to 8-0-0 against their Southeast division rivals with their 4-3 overtime victory over the Carolina Hurricanes. I'll be up front and let you all know that I had to catch this one from Clyde's, so the details aren't quite as sharp as usual. However, a win is a win, and it's not hard to tell when Greenie's knife plunges into Cam Ward's heart, no matter where you're catching the action.
- Let's get the turnover out of the way. Not a heads-up play by the Olympic hopeful, but he more than atoned for his mistake with that sick wrister. It's good to have you back Game Over Greenie.
- Speaking of that game-winning goal, how strong was Nick Backstrom along the boards? There was no way someone was going to take him off that puck...none.
- Alex Semin's second goal just showed disgusting control and patience. Those are two things that frustrate Caps fans if he doesn't put that one in the net.
- Glad to see Flash on the board. He seemed to be working a little harder tonight (or at least part of his night...the second part).
- Tim Gleason is a tough S.O.B.
- 40 shots to 19 for Carolina? C'mon Jose...not going to win playing time that way.
- B-mo was surprisingly quiet in the box score tonight. Two hits, two takeaways, and zero shots...weird.
- Jeff Schultz being Jeff Schultz. +1 and a secondary assist. Keep it up Sarge, and you'll lead the league in +/-. We need you to keep this up in May.
Kudos Go To:
Alexander Semin. It's a thing of beauty when the curl and drag (and that nasty snap shot) work in harmony.
