The Bloguin Network released its monthy set of Power Rankings this week, and there's plenty to discuss. Feel free to check 'em out. Here's a quick review:
- The Capitals were the overwhelming favorite this month with an overall rating of 1.2. This is the first time they've taken the top spot in the rankings all season.
- Despite handing the Atlantic Division over to the Penguins, the Devils still sit in the top four. Pens' fans have a right to be frustrated with an 8.5 rating and their team down in the ninth spot.
- Unlike many of the other rankings out there, Bloguin splits their top sixteen evenly this month between the Eastern and Western conferences. Are we seeing a change in balance of power?
- Despite clinging to a playoff spot, the Thrashers get no love. They sit in 24th overall.
More after the jump...
Most Accurate Comment of the Month:
"I almost feel sorry for Rick Nash"
-Melt Your Face Off on the #26 Blue Jackets
After watching Nash in the Olympics (and absue Mike Green back in the first month of the season), it's a damn shame that he doesn't get to showcase his talent in the playoffs. He's simply got sick hands and great skating ability. He must be one hell of a teammate to stay sane out there in Ohio.
Most Puzzling Comment of the Month:
"Without Kovalchuk, there is not much hope for this team"
-On the Duck Pond on the #24 Thrashers
First of all, the Thrashers have come on strong since the blockbuster deal, and have accumilated more standings points than the Devils since shipping away their pouting winger. Atlanta's got plenty of young talent on the blueline and some capable (although spotty) goaltending. Making the playoffs is a huge deal for a small market team like this one, and in a weak Eastern Conference, they have a better chance than most right now.
