Apparently Tech Is About To Be Blindsided By Broncos E-mail

Late July isn't typically the most exciting time for college football headlines. Typically we're starting to see news out of conference media days, but the ACC's media event is still a few days away. Fortunately, there are always ignorant people on the internet to keep things interesting until teams reconvene in the next few weeks. Many of you know that I like to be critical to most people that are critical about my beloved Hokies, but I typically reserve that effort for the Heather Dinich-types of the world. However, whenever stupidity rears its ugly head, I certainly have a difficult time avoiding a good ol' verbal joust.

Under normal circumstances (read: any moderately interesting sports week), I would typically ignore things posted on Bleacher Report. Most sports fans that have spent at least twenty minutes looking for news on their favorite teams realize that b/r is the ultimate stage for the nation's mouth-breathers to post their opinions on sports. Unfortunately, this week is full of depressing Washington baseball and little else, so this gem has managed to get a little under my skin. Apparently some Boise State fans have gotten a little too big for their britches, so I'm here to set the record straight, FJM style (comments in italics are mine after the jump):

Boise State: Virginia Tech Won't Know What Hit Em'

By Jimmy Vegas
(Contributor) on July 21, 2010

All of the BSU haters, including Mr. Mark May, have convinced themselves that we are going to lose to the Hokies in our season opener.
I'm notorious for using the 'we' when talking about the teams I support, but this guy hits it in the first sentence while also using the word "haters." We're off to a great start.

In fact, the dismissal of Boise State borders on paranoia. May and others firmly state that we have "no chance."

Paranoia? What are we afraid of, your field? Blue turf is pretty hard on the eyes during a broadcast, but we wear maroon and orange, so I digress.

The Broncos are favored by 2.5 points for cryin' out loud!

...and it's a fair spread. Boise is considered one of the top teams in the country. How is this disrespect?

I can't wait to hear the excuses. The blame. The scramble to justify and make sense of college football with Boise State planted firmly on top with all of the other college football powerhouses.

There are three periods in that paragraph, and yet only one of those phrases forms a complete sentence. I know it's pretentious, but you are a "contributor." Self-edit your stuff man!

I think it is absolutely hilarious that sooo many of you believe that we can't beat Virginia Tech

So you've shifted the "hater" crowd to your readers from Mark May? I never said Boise State couldn't beat Virginia Tech. In fact, most people are calling this one of the biggest games of the season. That probably wouldn't be the case if BSU was just some joke program.

When will these morons quit handing us Broncos yet another advantage?

Do you really think that the Broncos won't be stoked for this game? For that matter, do you think the Hokies are looking down on a top-ten team from last season?

Those people are out of their minds, and they desperately want to believe that Boise can't win this game.

With only 1,000 of our Boise State tickets left to sell to the Virginia Tech game, I think it's safe to say that you Hokies better start getting nervous.

As one commenter pointed out, BSU will have around 8,000 fans at FedEx Field on Labor Day while the Hokies will top out over 83,000. We should be pretty stressed about all that opposing crowd noise with a 10:1 advantage.

We Broncos travel!

Who wouldn't travel in your situation? You're from Idaho.

All of these kids traveled to Phoenix and performed very well on the big stage.

...against another mid-major.

It's mind-boggling to hear that we "can't compete" again and again.

...on your way to an undefeated season. We get it.

Boise State has so many weapons.

That's all well and good for the Broncos. Tech returns two 1,000-yard rushers, one of the nation's most efficient passers, four experienced receivers and three of five lineman. That's nothing to sneeze at.

We are losing just one starter, and our genius of a coach moved him to a different position for his last two games.

Our line grew 28 pounds on average from 2008-2009. It's going to grow another 20 pounds by the time the Hokies get trampled.

Virginia Tech has no strength and conditioning program. Their players aren't bigger in the first place either. Your ego is going to grow another fifty pounds by kickoff.

Rumor has Byron Hout moving to linebacker, because at 265 pounds, we just have bigger guys to hold the center.

I WATCHED Virginia Tech play last year.

Oh, did you now? Did Ryan Williams make you shit your pants?

They do not have a chance unless the six starters they lost on D are going to be magically replaced with veterans.

The Hokies certainly have no chance of winning anything after replacing starters on defense. They weren't able to do it in 2008 when they won the ACC, or 2004 when they won the ACC...or when they had the highest average defensive ranking in the country since leaving the Big East. Bud Foster can't coach!

Our offensive unit is intact and growing.

As is my fear with all of the statistical proof you're throwing my way. My head might explode!

VT's offense is good, and probably won't go scoreless.

They did score 31.8 points per game last season, which was good for 2nd in the Atlantic Coast Conference. But how could they hold up against a defense that ranked #14 in the country last season? Maybe they have some experience considering that they faced the nation's #12 defense in the country every day last season in practice. Forgive us if we aren't pissing our proverbial pants yet.

But our defense is nasty.

Like top-fifteen nasty? Come talk to me when Bud Foster is roaming your sidelines.

As soon as we do go undefeated, the talk will shift to how we "can't beat Bama," even though they let Utah take them apart. Boise has had no problem with the mighty Utes on several occasions.

So you're saying the Hokies have no chance again? FFODC will remember that on Labor Day when we meet your Boise Blue Buddies in the stands in Landover.

I would like to remind all of you that the National Championship will be played in the Fiesta Bowl this year. And I'm very confident the Broncos can make it 3-0 in Cardinal Stadium.

Actually, the Fiesta Bowl is played in University of Phoenix Stadium, and you'll probably have a good shot at doing that...in the Fiesta Bowl...again.

Please don't cry when we take the crystal football back to Boise.

I'll try to force back the tears.

As far as the Mountain West is concerned, you can all expect to see the Broncos dominate their new conference almost as bad as we did the WAC.

...which is like being the tastiest worm in a shit pie. You're bragging about dominating the WAC? I don't think BYU or TCU considers themselves to be pushovers, no matter your record against them.

Do any of you realize that the Broncos are 17-1 against the Mountain West since it was formed?

Did 99.8% of America watch any of those games besides last year's Fiesta Bowl?

That includes a 3-0 record against Utah, a 2-0 record against BYU, a 7-0 against Wyoming, and a 3-1 against TCU.

You got me here...Wyoming's always been a tough out...

Oh...I'm sorry...you guys are right.

We did lose by one point to TCU in the Poinsettia Bowl.

Virginia Tech has been to a bowl game every year since 1993.

Sorry about that.

You can apologize for hitting the 'enter' key too many times.

Hope we can be forgiven.

This is not a paragraph.

Oh, by the way, we still have Utah on our out-of-conference schedule in 2011, 2012, and 2013.

...zzzzzzzz...

Boise is five hours away from Salt Lake by car, so they ain't dropping no Boise State games.

What does this mean? Who cares?

I will finish with one LEGITIMATE QUESTION I DARE YOU DISBELIEVERS TO ANSWER:

AND I'LL MAKE IT WAAAAAAY MORE LEGITIMATE WITH ALL CAPS!!!! RAWR!!!!!!!

What will you do when the Broncos crush the Hokies and go undefeated?

Drink another beer and smile when I realize that I live in Northern Virginia, not Boise, Idaho.

I hope you guys all enjoyed this little post. Please understand that I am excited about the Boise State game and I certainly think that both teams are top-notch. I believe either team has a chance to win, and I hope to see a great game. While I understand that this dink doesn't represent the BSU fan base, it was too much fun to pass up the opportunity to have a little fun with his "article." Either way, have a good night, and see you guys in Landover!

Thank you
While I don't feel we should drop to their level, that kid is ridiculous. He posted the EXACT same article at the beginning of June just with a different title. The arrogance of the Boise State fans is insane. Thank you for disecting his "article." Maybe he will read it and comment here just so we can all enjoy it some more smilies/smiley.gif

Jimmy Vegas does not...
... speak for all Boise State fans. I'm a long-time season ticket holder and all the Boise State fans I know fully realize this is THE game for Boise State. We are honored to play VT and honored to play in D.C. Certainly, Coach Pete would look at this trash talk with disdain (as would most fans). Boise State does travel well and our fans are always gracious and respectful. I take umbrage with the assessment that Boise State fans are "arrogant." Rather, I would say that we have a huge chip on our shoulders. We are proud of Boise, proud of our school, and proud of Coach Pete and the program. We only want a chance to play with the big boys like VT. Boise State fans always feel like they are just one loss away from losing credibility. Which is why we approach every game like it is the only game that matters. Go to a Boise State game and you'll see over half the crowd chewing on their nails. We take this stuff seriously.

Ryan made me shit my pants twice last year. I really think you will see VT really prepared for this game. VT coaching staff has really buckled down for these big games to start the year and bowl games. Beamer and Bud know this is great opportunity this year for VT to have a chance to run the table and play for that BCS National title. Don't think that the Player don't know that, and the great progress they made last year, don't worry VT will bring it.
