I thought I'd do my own little tribute to the 2009 Season, and I'll start with the unsung heroes from all three phases of the game: offense, defense and special teams. Unsung heroes are guys that may not get a lot of recognition, but are essential to running a successful college football program. They might do the dirty work, grind out the tough yards, or have a thankless job within the gameplan. In other words, the heroes that I pick won't be superstars, but they're probably the most important guys on the field. Today we'll start off with offense:

A few days ago I was asked to participate in Gobbler Country's 2009 Postseason Roundtable. Furrer4Heisman asked some pretty solid questions, and he'll have everyone's answers posted over at his site later this week. Just as a sneak preview, here's what I had to say:

Thanks to the Miz for letting me guest post on Fight For Old DC. We’re almost half way into the Virginia Tech Men’s Basketball season. Let’s take a look at the first half of the season, the Hokie Guru’s midseason awards, and a look at some very important Atlantic Coast Conference games.

Well, everything seemed to turn out beautifully for the Hokies on New Years' Eve against Tennessee. Frank Beamer's crew rode a spark at the end of the first half to twenty-three unanswered points and consecutive bowl wins for the first time in school history.

Tonight, Virginia Tech will take on the Tennessee Volunteers in Atlanta with an opportunity to achieve a few big goals and put a final successful stamp on their season. This trip marks the Hokies third march down to Atlanta, and we all know how the first two turned out. Tech has an opportunity to win consecutive bowl games for the first time in Frank Beamer's career, as well as a chance to join Texas as the only other team to win at least ten games over each of the last six seasons. Needless to say, although it's a "second tier" bowl, there's still a lot on the line for the Hokies.

First of all, I would like to thank everyone for participating in the first Hokie Photoshop Expo. I saw some really awesome entries, and it was nice to see a little creativity and fun out of Hokie Nation during the bowl break. Everyone that participated did a great job. The results are in, and the winner has had a toy donated to a kid in the DC area in his name as a reward. The first winner of the Hokie Photoshop Expo is...(drum roll...)

As a current voter for Dan Steinberg's Atlantic 11 Poll, I have to contribute a weekly ballot of the top ten men's basketball teams in the region. Each voter picks ten teams and Steinberg tallies the votes into an eleven team power poll. Only teams from D.C., Virginia, and Maryland qualify. You can check out the final results over at the DC Sports Bog.
