Connor Rowe celebrates a walk-off homer in the 2009 CWS Semis (Eric Francis/AP)
Three Nats draft picks have signed on the dotted line in the last few days: Connor Rowe, Rick Hughes and Russell Moldenhauer. I figure three is enough for another draft pick update; if you missed the first batch, here are parts one and two, plus an extended look at undrafted FA signing Mike Gallo.

I figured running through the Nats signed draft picks would be pretty fun because I like wading through information and compiling lists. What I did not know was that one of the undrafted free agents, likely overlooked by many reading the Nats' press release, would end up happily answering a bunch of my questions for the blog. Mike Gallo pitched for the last two seasons at Milligan College, a very small Christian school in Johnson City, Tennessee. One of my older sisters went to Milligan, so I took a big interest in Mike's story. Here's what he had to say!

37th round pick Nick Serino via MassLive
On Monday, I looked at the first half of the 2010 draftees the Nats have signed so far. Today it's time for the second half. Unfortunately, there is not a whole lot of info on most of these guys, especially in the form of scouting reports. But I'll do my best to dig up any info I can!
Also, I have completed an interview with Mike Gallo, a RHP who just signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Nats. I'm going over final touches with him, so it should be up soon.

I've been there through the good times and the bad times with the Washington Nationals. I was with this team when they started off 50-31 in the first half of 2005 and stuck with them despite a 31-50 second half that saw a playoff berth disappear. I was there when Ryan Zimmerman opened Nationals Park with a walk-off home run against Atlanta, and I sat patiently through the years of Manny Acta, which included two seasons of 100-plus losses, knowing things would have to change eventually. And now, I sit here on a suddenly crowded bandwagon as Stephen Strasburg is making his mark in the Major League record books.

Dear Mr. Haynesworth,
Merriam-Webster defines a professional as a person “participating for gain or livelihood in and activity or field of endeavor often engaged in by amateurs.” They also offer “exhibiting a courteous, conscientious and generally businesslike manner in the workplace” and “characterized by or conforming to the technical or ethical standards of a profession” as alternate definitions. You technically fit the first definition, but based on the other two, you are no professional.

Brian Oliver from Nats Farm Authority posted up the list of 22 players from the 2010 draft that have been signed by the Nats. Here's what I've dug up on the guys the Nats have signed from the top 19 rounds. I will continue to dig up as much info as possible on the rest of the guys the Nats signed throughout the week.

I've got a lot of catching up to do on my Ten Game Sets series. I spent a lot of time doing the graphs for the Catchers and Infielders section of Part 4 as well as doing my work on NCAA realignment. Now that I've got the time, I'll give my thoughts on three sets of 10 games: 31-40, 41-50 and 51-60.

Well we've given this whole debate a pretty strong effort overall, but now it's time for me to weigh in with my plan to rework Division I football and basketball. Like the past two entries, my plan tends to focus more on football because the conference setup seems to be of greater concern in that area. Considering that basketball has a far more flexible scheduling process (and capacity), I'm assuming that will fall into place with my football plans.
Starting out, I tried to keep certain rivalries alive as well as tried to revisit a few old ones. I've broken the country down into four mega-conferences of sixteen teams with eight-team divisions and four-team "pods." Here's how the schedule will work out:

To continue FFODC's look at possible conference expansion, it's my turn to propose a solution to this great expansion debate. I have no problem with the current setup for basketball, so I let that stay the way it is. For football, I took a little different approach, and based my new conferences primarily on geography. Most rivalries were kept in order, with a couple being split into separate conferences (most notably Colorado/Colorado State, but they're already in separate conferences).
I created eight total conferences, six with 16 teams and two with 12 teams. Each team would play 12 games in a typical season with the 16-team "power" conferences playing the other seven teams in their division and three from the opposite division, plus two out-of-conference games. Of the three teams from the opposite division, one would be considered a "rival" and play every year while the other two would rotate every year. The two 12-team conferences would play all ten teams in the conference and two out-of-conference games.
